04/15/2013 -- The Year Ahead at The Afton Driving Park
With spring here, activity is on the increase at The Afton Driving Park. The first event of the year, as always is the Annual Afton Sertoma Club Easter Egg Hunt, which was held in March.

Events for the year have been scheduled including:

• The Afton Fun Shows, with the first show being held on May 4 and then an additional four shows throughout the summer and fall months.
• A flea market will be held on May 18, with set up starting at 7:00 am and open to the public at 8:00 am. If you would like to become a vendor for the flea market, the required rules and forms are available on the Afton Fair Website: www.theaftonfair.com.
• The Catskill Garden Tractor Pullers are returning with their first pull on May 11 and will have four more during the summer and fall months.
• I-88 Speedway is gearing up for an exciting year of Friday night racing.

The 124th Afton Fair is scheduled for Thursday, July 11 through Sunday, July 14. We are rolling out a new, reduced fee schedule for vendors for the Afton Fair! Details on the new pricing are available in the Vendor Contract, which is available on the website at www.theaftonfair.com/vendors.shtml.

While still in the planning stages, we can announce the following fair events:

• The Annual Harness Racing Event will be held on Thursday as normal.
• I-88 Speedway will have a regular night of racing on Friday night.
• The Youth Dairy Show will be held on Friday and Saturday.
• The Open Horse Shows on Saturday and Sunday.

We are working to fill in the schedule with other events that will be announced as the plans are solidified.

We regret to announce that we have been unable to find a Midway Company for this year's fair. A combination of insurance requirements, labor laws, gas prices and other state regulations make it challenging for midway companies to break even at smaller fairs. We remain open to any offers from any Midway company that would be willing to come to Afton.

We continue to work on bringing other activities to the fairgrounds over the summer and fall months. We are open to ideas and suggestions on events. We encourage organizations who would like to hold a public event to look at the Afton Fairgrounds as an option. Rental quotes are given on a case by case basis.
